Terms of Service

Last updated: January 28, 2025

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the SigningScout website at signingscout.com ("Service"). By using the Service, you agree to these Terms.

1. Service Description

SigningScout is a searchable directory of notary public commission records aggregated from official state Secretary of State databases. The Service allows users to search for notaries and allows notaries to claim and enhance their directory listings.

2. Use of the Service

You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes. You may not:

  • Scrape, crawl, or bulk download data from our directory for commercial purposes without permission
  • Use the Service to harass, spam, or contact notaries for purposes unrelated to notary services
  • Attempt to claim a notary profile that does not belong to you
  • Provide false or misleading information when claiming a profile
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure
  • Use automated systems to access the Service in a manner that exceeds reasonable use

3. Accounts and Profile Claims

Notaries may create an account and claim their listing. When claiming a profile, you represent that:

  • You are the individual named in the notary commission record
  • Your notary commission is currently active
  • Information you add to your profile is accurate and current
  • You will keep your profile information up to date

We reserve the right to suspend or remove profiles that contain false information or violate these Terms.

4. Public Records Data

The notary commission data displayed on SigningScout is sourced from publicly available state government records. We make reasonable efforts to keep this data accurate and current, but we do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of any information.

For official commission verification, always check with the relevant state Secretary of State office directly.

5. No Legal Advice

SigningScout is a directory service, not a law firm. Nothing on this website constitutes legal advice. Notarization requirements vary by state and document type. Consult a qualified attorney for legal questions about notarization.

6. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not warrant that:

  • The Service will be uninterrupted or error-free
  • Commission data is always accurate or up to date
  • Any notary listed is currently available or accepting clients
  • The Service will meet your specific requirements

7. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, SigningScout shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service, including but not limited to damages arising from reliance on notary commission data or hiring decisions based on directory listings.

8. Intellectual Property

The SigningScout name, logo, website design, and original content are our intellectual property. Notary commission data sourced from public records remains public information. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from our proprietary content without written permission.

9. User Content

By posting reviews or other content on SigningScout, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to display and distribute that content in connection with the Service. You represent that your content is accurate, does not violate any third-party rights, and complies with applicable laws.

10. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time for violating these Terms. You may delete your account at any time by contacting us.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to conflict of law principles.
